Trentham

Trentham Falls is the longest single drop waterfall in Victoria, plunging some 32 metres over basalt columns. Surrounded on three sides by the tall timbers of the Wombat Forest, that once provided its wealth, Trentham is often referred to as ‘one of the hidden secrets of Victoria’. It is waiting to be discovered on the way from Daylesford to Woodend.

Trentham is home to Victoria’s highest single drop waterfall, formed from molten lava rapidly cooling as it flowed five million years ago along the Coliban River. Now the Trentham Falls plunge 32 metres over basalt columns. Best seen after heavy rain, it can be viewed from the picnic reserve and is a truly spectacular sight.

The Falls reserve protects one of the best remnants of original vegetation in the area, with stands of manna gum, messmate, stringybark and narrow-leaved peppermint. The reserve is ideal for picnics or barbecues, with picnic tables, fireplaces and toilets provided for visitors. The Trentham Cascades are a short walk further north from the Falls Reserve car park.

To get there, take Falls Road (the continuation of High Street) from the town centre past the football ground and Golf Club. Turn right at the T-intersection at the Daylesford road, and then left at the sign some 100 metres up the road.

In recent times, Trentham has become home to a range of artists who pursue and share their works across many disciplines. A Sunday market is held monthly at the historic Trentham Railway Station.
